Will Stem Cells Help With My.... ? Daytona Beach Health Clinic Provides Answers 2/14/2017

Shoulder Pain,Rotator Cuff Tear, Knee Pain, Knee Arthritis, Ankle Pain, Leg Pain?

Well, it all depends on a few factors:

1) How severe is your injury?
Every week we have to turn patients away from the stem cell injections because they waited too long to do something about the pain. If you have a complete tear of a ligament or tendon, the stems cells won't work. If you have arthritis so severe that there is no cartilage left in your joint, the stem cells won't work. The only way to know if your condition will respond to stem cells is if you have an evaluation with our doctors and review your specific case. We only want success stories and will not recommend the procedure unless you are a good candidate.

2) Will you be able to rest the joint or tendon for four weeks?
Many times the reason a joint is arthritic or damaged is because of the damage done by repetitive motion or heavy pressure on the joint. The Stem Cells need an opportunity to grow and repair the tissue. The recommendation is four weeks of no high impact activities on the joint. If it's a knee, that means no running. If it's a shoulder, no pulling the lawn mower. You get the idea.

3) Is the placement accurate?
In our office we use a color ultrasound to guide the needle placement of the stem cells to the damaged tissue.

4) Do you take anti-inflammatory medications like NSAIDs?
When stem cells are injected into the area the stem cells become the cells of tissue that need regenerating and grow only when it’s needed. What do think is the signaling the body gives to tell the stem cells and telling it to go to work?  Enzymes from inflammation. What do you think are not allowed to take when you get the stem cell injection? Anti-inflammatory medication. If you have an injection you can’t be on anti-inflammatory medication 3 to 4 days before the injection and you can’t take them for 8 weeks after the injection because they will stop the healing process. I know that’s going to be real difficult for some people because most of you are thinking, "I don’t think I can get through a day without an anti-inflammatory."  But that’s the decision you’re going to have to make. If you get a stem cell injection and you take anti-inflammatory medicaiton you will decrease the effectiveness of it. When the stem cells are working they create, muscle, ligament, tendon, cartilage, bone, tissue, nerve… all tissues can come from stem cells.
