You know why poor posture can cause back pain. Now learn how to fix it!
First you must identify which muscles are weak (usually the postural muscles) and which muscles are tight (usually the phasic muscles). These tests are performed in the office by a medical provider (ARNP in our office), a physical therapist, or a chiropractor. They write an order for physical therapy.
Physical therapy will correct much of the problem and pain will typically decrease. To speed up the process you might be recommended a procedure called a trigger point injection. A trigger point injection is very safe and will decrease the pain quicker and allow the muscle to relax faster. It's like a 60 minute massage in 3 minutes!
A posture band can be worn to remind you of your posture. This tool can also be used to do therapy at home, work, or whenever convenient.
Chiropractic adjustments will loosen the joints in your back and allow you to move easier. Adjustments also decrease pain.
