First, STAY SAFE! This means you should assess the situation to see if it is safer to get out of the car or stay in the car. Also, call 911 if necessary.
Be courteous and polite, but do not admit fault. Talk with the police to help fill out the report.
Seek medical attention as soon as possible. Research has shown that the sooner you seek medical care following a trauma, the better your recovery.
At Coastal Integrative Healthcare your first interaction with your doctor will include a detailed description of your injuries and exactly how they occurred. You will discuss how those injuries have affected your daily activities. You will have a complete medical exam by a qualified medical professional. You will have all the necessary tests performed to ensure it is a case we can treat in our office. The treatment plan prescribed by your doctor at this point will depend a great deal on what you communicate during your first visit. It is important to discuss the following with your health care providers:
Health Care Provider Communications Checklist
❒Can you treat my injuries and what treatment do you advise?
❒Is there anything I shouldn't be doing during treatment (lifting, working, running)?
❒How long should my treatment continue?
❒What happens if treatment doesn't work? Is surgery an option?
❒Will you refer me to another doctor if necessary?
❒Will I fully recover from my injuries? If not, what will my limitations be?
❒What must I do to fully participate in my treatment plan now?
❒What might I need to do in the future to continue treating this injury?
❒Will you be available to work with me (and my attorney) in my settlement negotiations?
We will review all these questions with you on your visit. Coastal Integrative Healthcare doctors are trained to quickly refer to other doctors or specialists when needed.
We are here to help. Our first goal is to get you out of pain and back to your activities again. Time to get your life back!
